See this: Gran Torino

A nice, albeit somewhat predictable movie by, and starring, Clint Eastwood.
Eastwood plays a widower living next to an extended Hmong family, befriending the young daughter and her brother and eventually trying to keep him out of trouble. While teaching the boy about household chores Eastwood learns about life. About Schmidt meets Karate Kid, perhaps.
Along the way are numerous racial insults, misunderstandings and a few poignant moments about living and dying. Eastwood is great, of course -- in the opening scenes you can see his hatred of life. And, of course, some great lines. Who else can turn a phrase like "get off my lawn" into one of the best in a film?
In fact, all of the major characters were very strong. I especially liked Father Janovich (played by Christopher Carley) whose appearances in key scenes help to guide Eastwood's character, the movie's plot and its message.
I think the movie was very entertaining, perhaps Oscar worthy, although I've liked some of Eastwood's other recent projects slightly better.
