Field trip: American River

This photo was taken towards the end of a day that included two hikes to waterfalls along the American River, near Auburn.
No Hands Bridge, which spans the river downstream of the confluence of the north and middle forks, is seen in the distance. The bridge once held tracks belonging to the Mt. Quarries Railroad. Today it's used by hikers and equestrians on the Western States Trail.
The bridge's nickname dates to the time before handrails were installed.
An equestrian intentionally dropped her reins while crossing the bridge!
