See this: Food Matters

A nice documentary (shown as part of a local "alternative film" series) which will have you re-examining what you put into your mouth. The film, through interviews with scientists, doctors and natural food promoters, makes a few very strong points:
- Nutrition is not given serious thought by the medical profession, in part because eating right doesn't make as much profit as selling medicine.
- Access to health care isn't what needs to be fixed in this country; it is health care in general that needs to be fixed.
- If Americans ate better they would live longer and not suffer serious and chronic problems like they do now. That would reduce medical costs, both per person and for the country as a whole.
- Some serious diseases, including cancers and coronary disease, could be cured by repairing one's diet or through megadoses of vitamins that allow the body to heal itself, rather than through surgery or medicine.

Some of the claims in this movie seem hard to swallow but who can argue with eating towards an eye on health. I did notice that many of the deceased scientists quoted in the movie lived longer than the average American.
(And no, popcorn was not sold at this movie.)
