A marketing tail

"My mom says I can get a dog."
"My dog, Lucy, just had puppies."

With that school yard transaction I got my dog, Goober. Goober was a great dog. He was what we called a mutt, a mixture of several breeds. In this case, Cocker Spaniel + poodle + Maltese Terrier. (I know, the word "poodle" should be capitalized.)

I'm not sure what a dog like Goober would be called these days. Mutts, it seems, no longer exist. Instead, what you have are Puggles, which are a cross between a pug and a beagle. Or a

Foodle, which is a Poodle + Toy Fox Terrier.

They're called designer dogs, and they fetch a much better price than a mutt.

I recall the first time I encountered a man walking his Labradoodle, and he told me what it was (besides ugly).
I asked him if he created it in his garage. I don't think I was that far off.
