While driving through northern California recently I decided to stop at Lake Shasta, which is at a record low level because of the recent drought. While that's not a good thing for anyone, it does allow one to see what's usually underneath several hundred feet of water. The opportunity for barren "moonscape" shots was plentiful, but I liked this vantage of the Sacramento River. The Sacramento is one of three major rivers impounded to create the reservoir. The tree line and the discolored soil shows the typical water level at this location. The low water level has also revealed many man-made objects that were inundated by the reservoir, including some old bridges and tunnels. Unfortunately I didn't have time to check out those sights. I guess I'll have to wait until the next drought year.
