Read this: My Life by Bill Clinton

This was an interesting read for two primary reasons:
- it gives a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at politics, especially national politics, during the 1990s.
- it shows a slice-of-life of rural southern America in the 1950s and 1960s.

Bill Clinton admits that he can be long-winded and, at 953 pages, this book is proof. There is a great amount of detail on the efforts for peace in Ireland and the Middle East, which I found to be a bit boring. Important issues, to be sure, but not that interesting to me.
Clinton seems to use this book to acknowledge everyone in his life and their impact on his, professionally and/or personally. We know there are a great many "friends of Bill" but that name dropping made it hard to follow the story.
Another thing I found a bit annoying was the tendency to read too much like a diary. "On April 17 ..." "The next day..." "Later that week..." I know it's an autobiography so going in chronological order makes sense, but the roll call of dates seems to take away from the story telling aspect.
Clinton did not go into detail about his misconduct, which he acknowledged, and at times really seemed to toot his own horn. While the lack of detail about misconduct was fine with me (we all know what happened any way), his self-promotion makes me wonder about the accuracy.
But I guess an autobiography is about one's own life, the way they see it. History will have the final say.
